Remembering Jesse Jackson

February 17, 2026Black Wealth, Black History Month, Giving Back

A Life of Faith, Courage, and Forward Motion

This morning, we pause with reverence.

The Reverend Jesse Jackson has passed from this life, and with him a generation’s living memory of marches, sermons, negotiations, and unrelenting moral appeal.

He was not simply a witness to history.

He was one of its steady hands.

Born in 1941 in Greenville, South Carolina, Jackson entered a segregated America that had already drawn lines around his future. Yet even as a young man, he believed those lines were neither permanent nor sacred. Faith shaped him. Discipline steadied him. And the conviction that justice was not optional—but essential—propelled him forward.

When he joined Martin Luther King Jr. in the mid-1960s, the Civil Rights Movement was not symbolic. It was dangerous. It demanded courage in the face of violence and endurance in the face of delay.

In 1965, Jackson marched in Selma, Alabama. He crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge—now forever a monument to sacrifice and democratic resolve. That bridge represents more than a moment of brutality. It represents perseverance.

And perseverance defined him.

When Dr. King was assassinated in 1968, the movement stood at a crossroads. Grief threatened to fracture what discipline had built. Jackson chose continuation over retreat. He did not claim a mantle. He carried a mission.

He would go on to found Operation PUSH and later the Rainbow PUSH Coalition—institutions dedicated to economic empowerment, political participation, and accountability. He believed justice required organization. He believed hope required structure.

He reminded the nation that protest must mature into policy.

That lesson resonates deeply today.

Because justice—like legacy—depends on preparation.

Reverend Jackson understood that rights are protected when people are present in the rooms where decisions are made. He spent decades ensuring marginalized voices were not only heard—but seated at the table.

His presidential campaigns in 1984 and 1988 did not merely seek office. They expanded possibility. They proved viability. They widened the path for future leadership.

And when Barack Obama rose to the presidency in 2008, it was, in part, because leaders like Jackson had spent decades making such a moment conceivable. History is rarely a single breakthrough. It is the accumulation of disciplined courage.

Reverend Jackson’s life was not without controversy. It was not without criticism. But it was undeniably committed—to justice, to dignity, to inclusion.

He believed deeply in the phrase he made famous: Keep Hope Alive.

Hope, for him, was never passive optimism. It was active engagement.

It meant showing up.

It meant organizing.

It meant preparing before crisis dictated the outcome.

That principle extends beyond movements and into families.

We honor leaders not only by remembering their words, but by applying their discipline.

Not as a commercial moment.
But as a stewardship one.

Limited seating remains.

Because planning—like organizing—requires intention.

If you have been meaning to protect your home, clarify guardianship for your children, update an outdated trust, or ensure your family avoids unnecessary court involvement, consider this your moment to step forward.

And again here, if today is the day you decide not to delay:

Reverend Jackson’s life reminds us that absence invites others to decide for us.

In civil rights, absence meant exclusion from lawmaking.

In estate planning, absence can mean probate delays, confusion, or conflict during moments already heavy with grief.

If attending in person is not possible, we encourage you to watch our On-Demand seminar tonight with your spouse or adult children. Begin the conversation calmly—before urgency forces it.

On-Demand access is available here:

These are not dramatic acts.

They are responsible ones.

Reverend Jackson’s greatest contribution may not have been a single speech or march. It may have been his consistency. His willingness to remain engaged across decades—through victories and setbacks alike.

He taught us that dignity is worth defending.

That participation matters.

That progress is not self-sustaining.

And that faith must be paired with action.

Watch Our On-Demand link with family members so that alignment begins early:

As we remember him today, let us do so with gratitude and sobriety. The work he devoted his life to remains ongoing. Equality continues to require vigilance. Inclusion continues to require effort. Democracy continues to require participation.

Rest in peace, Reverend Jesse Jackson.

Thank you for your faith.
Thank you for your courage.
Thank you for walking the bridge when it was dangerous to do so.
Thank you for widening the path for those who followed.

May we honor you not only with words—but with responsibility.

With humility.
With preparation.
With purpose.

Testimonials

Client Review
August 19, 2020

“My mother told me about the Collins Law Group and I must say, the entire experience has been a real pleasure. Although I was nervous at first, the Collins Law Group staff put me at ease with their friendliness and knowledge. I didn’t realize how hard it could be on your family and loved ones left behind if you die without any planning or directions in place for them. My biggest concern was making sure my elderly mother would be provided for and taken care of if something happened to me. I have been a caregiver for her for 12 years, so this planning was crucially important. I had previously made a living trust for myself on Legal Zoom but there is no comparison to the level of service and professionalism that Collins Law Group embodies. Attorney Collins and her staff provides excellent service and it will take a large burden off of my family when they need guidance at the time of my passing.”
